Uncle Kracker
Uncle Kracker plays CNU
Nominated for Adult Contemporary Radio Artist of the year, Uncle Kracker rocks The Freeman Center on April 10th at 8 p.m. General Admission $15. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or by calling the Ferguson Center Ticket Office at (757) 594-8752.

Ella Festival Music Festival has a new home
The Ferguson Center's Music & Theatre Hall serves as the new home for the 8th Annual Ella Fitzgerald Music Festival. Opening night features award winning jazz singer Ann Hampton Callaway with the CNU jazz ensembles on Wednesday, April 7, followed by multi-Grammy award winning musician and composer Arturo Sandoval on Thursday, April 8, and Tonight Show bandleader, Kevin Eubanks on Friday, April 9.

Alumni Director accepts new position at CNU
Alumni Director Kim Roeder ‘90 returns to her roots as the new Director of Student Activities. Kim served as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at William and Mary for eight years prior to joining CNU in 2001. She received her masters in Higher Education Administration from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. Her last day as the Director of Alumni Relations will be April 8.

Special Recognition

Congratulations to the CNU Indoor Guard and directors Brantley Douglas and Jennifer Shero for winning first place in the Independent A division at the Atlantic Indoor Association competition held in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Indoor Guard, also known as Color Guard, incorporates a broad variety of general effect elements like dance, flags and other props to enhance the performance of the band.

Dr. Michelle Barnello, assistant professor of political science, has been awarded the 2004 Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics. Co-authored with a colleague from Loiusiana State University, the paper entitled "Bridging the Gender Gap: the Representation of Women's Interests in State Legislatures" was funded in part by a Dean's Office Summer Stipend in 2003.

Sophomore Gus Diggs has been accepted to attend the highly selective American Psychological Association Summer Science Research Institute at Vanderbilt University. The APA Summer Science Institute (SSI) is an intensive 9-day program designed to immerse students in the science of psychology.

Congratulations to CNU faculty member Dr. Graham Schweig on the publication of "Dance of Divine Love, The Rasa Lila of Krishna."

Live from New York … it’s the New Alumni and Class of 2005 Party
The Alumni Society invites the Classes of 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 to celebrate at the New Alumni and Senior Class Party on April 8 at 7 pm.  The event is sponsored by the Virginia Educators Credit Union.

Conversations with a Composer
The CNU Department of Music presents their yearly series, “Conversations with a Composer,” on April 11 in the Music and Theatre Hall in the Ferguson Center for the Arts. The program begins at 7:15 p.m. with a pre-concert lecture by guest speaker Dr. Morris Rosenzweig.

CNU Wind Ensemble performs in D.C.
The concert by the CNU Wind Ensemble, including the world premiere of Dr. Brian Hulse's Concerto for Piano and Symphonic Winds featuring CNU pianist Dr. Jeffrey Brown, will be held on Monday, April 18th, at 6 p.m. on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. Free and open to the public.

Gardening Symposium
CNU’s 8th Annual Gardening Symposium will take place on Saturday, April 16. Workshop topics address many phases of successful year-round gardening. The popular plant sale provides a great variety of exciting plants to renew any garden. This symposium is especially beneficial for the new gardener.

CNU ATHLETICS Sports Shorts

Captain Chris Four Christopher Newport athletes were named USA South Athlete of the Week.


CNU’s golf team finished in a tie for 14th place at the Golden Isles Intercollegiate held on the Par-72 Oleander Course.

Lacrosse team earns third straight USA South win.

Women's tennis team has started the season off with five straight wins.

Men’s Tennis downs Ferrum 7-0.

Baseball team used solid pitching and a few timely hits to take the first two games of a three-game series over Averett at Captains Park.

Softball team splits a USA South double-header at Peace College.
