We are back from Dublin!

Dr. Tracey Schwarze and students in front of the James Joyce statue

The trip was fabulous--our students had an enriching intellectual and cultural experience. They attended two lectures each morning on a James Joyce-related topic, then studied in seminars in the afternoon with fellow students from universities in Croatia, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, Switzerland, Ireland, and the US (Stanford, Michigan, U California, CNU).

On the Hill of Howth

At the gates of the libraryMegan Tucker and Kristen Willett worked on undergraduate research projects at the National Library of Ireland. We also had lots of time, given the 18 hours of sunlight each day (well, SUNlight might be stretching the term a bit--it did rain a lot), to experience Dublin culture. The school faculty and organizers were very impressed with our students, who were charming, engaged, and strong represenatatives of CNU. We were also the guests of the Swiss ambassador for a lovely garden reception at the embassy one evening.

Dr. Tracey Schwarze prepares for her lectureMy own lecture went very well, and I have been invited to submit to a peer reviewed journal in Italy (Joyce Studies in Italy) that is doing a special issue on Joyce and Victorian Culture. Also, it seems that my work for last year's international symposium has been selected for the Bloomsday Centenary volume, which is exciting.

Best,
Dr. Tracey Schwarze
