Scholarship donors, recipients honored
President Trible and Dr. Forbes
President Trible presents a gift of appreciation to Dr. Sarah E. Forbes for her $1 million gift to CNU's Endowed Merit Scholarship Challenge.

CNU's scholarship donors and recipients enjoy lunch in the David Student Union Ballroom.The new David Student Union Ballroom provided an inspirational environment for the 300 guests at the 15th Annual Donor and Recipient Scholarship luncheon on Nov. 8. The luncheon allowed alumni, family, and friends to reconnect with the University and learn about the lives of CNU scholars. The University remains grateful for donor support. Privately funded scholarships allow CNU to welcome all qualified applicants – regardless of their financial situation. German ambassador visits campus

German Ambassador Dr. Klaus Scharioth spoke to students, faculty, and administrators on Germany’s role in the new Europe on Oct. 26. His visit was hosted by the CNU Department of History.

Author David L. Robbins to speak at 26th Annual Writers' Conference
International best-selling author David L. Robbins, author of “The Assassins Gallery,” “Liberation Road,” “Last Citadel,” “Scorched Earth,” “The End of War,” “War of the Rats” and “Souls to Keep” is keynote speaker for CNU’s 26th Annual Writers’ Conference and Writing Contest, which is March 30-31, 2007, at the Ferguson Center for the Arts. Writers are encouraged to enter their unpublished works in the Writing Contest. The deadline for entering the contest is Jan. 31, 2007.

Classes, trips, presentations offered for those of retirement age
Retirees can choose from 43 courses covering topics from Russian literature, poetry and opera to the Bush administration, the nuclear club, Berlin and much more in the spring session of the LifeLong Learning Society. Also offered are trips to Washington, D.C, the Philadelphia Flower Show and a Canadian cruise as well as 10 Monday lectures, three conferences and special interest groups that bring together all members. The session begins Jan. 29.

Fall 2006 CNU Alumni Magazine available
The Fall 2006 Alumni Magazine is now available online and in print format! Contact Ashley Boyd at ashley.boyd@cnu.edu to add, change or correct your mailing address for the printed version of the magazine.

Car raffle
Scott Millar is the winner of the Smart Ticket and a new Chevy HHR! The winning ticket was drawn during halftime of the Nov. 11 football game. The raffle raised more than $15,000 for scholarships and other Alumni Society projects.

Fraternity chatered
Kappa Delta Rho-Beta Gamma chapter had its official chartering banquet on Oct. 28. This formal event marked the full recognition of KDR as a member of the fraternity community at CNU.

Food Drive brings in 1,956 items
The five Panhellenic sororities at CNU collected a total of 1,956 canned food items in the Food Drive on Oct. 16. All items were donated to the Virginia Food Bank through the CNU Athletics Food Drive.

Alumni in W&M Accounting Program
The following CNU alumni are attending the Master of Accounting Program at the College of William and Mary: Ryan Pierce, Dana Padilla, Zach Bell and Tyler Embrey.

Undergraduate student to present research
Nicole Justice, a history major, has been selected to present her proposal, "The Malleus Maleficarum's Dissemination of Misogyny throughout European Society," at the 2007 Popular Culture/American Culture conference in Boston, April 4-7, 2007.

Anita LoveStudent teacher gets scholarship award
Anita Love, a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program, has received the Minority/Diversity Scholarship Award for 2006-2007 from the Virginia Association of Teachers of English.

Students inducted into honor society
The Virginia Zeta Chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society inducted CNU students on Nov. 11.

Captain ChrisMen's, women's basketball off to winning start
The men's season is 4-2, and the Captains return to action Dec. 16 when CNU hosts Frostburg State at 2 p.m. The women are 3-2 on the year, and return to action Dec. 9 when they travel to Hood (MD) with a 3 p.m. tip-off.

Captains defeated in playoffs
For the third time in five seasons, Washington & Jefferson ended CNU's season in the NCAA Playoffs. CNU finished the year at 8-3

Football coach, players honored by USA South
Head Football Coach Matt Kelchner was named this year's Coach of the Year and 13 of his players were named to the USA South's All-Conference Team
.

CNU football player in Aztec Bowl
CNU defensive back Rob Rodriguez has been selected to play for the American Football Coaches Association's Division III all-star team.

Field hockey coach, players honored
Head Coach Carrie Moura was named the womensfieldhockey.com Coach of the Year, while Ashley Traylor and Jacque Mayer received their second All-America honors of 2006.

Soccer players picked for teams
Five CNU men's soccer players and one women’s soccer player were named to the All-South teams by d3kicks.com.

Tennis teams ranked
The men’s tennis team is ranked 12th, and the women's tennis team is ranked 13th in the ITA's Fall Regional Rankings.
