December graduates announced
CNU graduated 183 students in December. These students are eligible to participate in the University's Spring Commencement exercises on May 13, 2007.
CNU students provide free tax services
Taxpayers can have their tax returns prepared and e-filed for free by volunteers from Christopher Newport University's Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business. Services are offered in the SunTrust Building on the CNU campus beginning February 1 until April 16. No appointment is necessary.
Jamaica Kincaid to speak on “Coming of Age in a Small Place”
Internationally recognized author, filmmaker and Harvard professor, Jamaica Kincaid will speak at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in the Music and Theatre Hall, 7 p.m., February 1, to coincide with both Black History Month and Jamestown 2007.
John Marsh, William Whitehurst to speak at CNU
The former Secretary of the Army and the former Congressman will speak at CNU on Feb. 15. The event at 7 p.m. in the Music and Theatre Hall of the Ferguson Center for the Arts is free and open to the public.
Spring 2007 Career Fair
Employers will be recruiting for full-time and part-time employment opportunities and internship/co-op opportunities. The event will be on February 28 at 11 a.m. in the David Student Union Ballroom and is open to all CNU Students and Alumni. Business attire and copies of resumes are required. SPECIAL RECOGNITION
CNU graduate publishes book
Margaret Brittingham, a CNU graduate, is the author of “Sailing Ships and Thee.” Ms. Brittingham graduated from CNU in 1974 with a B.S. in psychology. She currently lives in Hampton, VA.
Student to study in Tanzania
Phil LeClerc, a junior majoring in psychology and economics, has been awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year. He will spend the year studying at Tanzania’s University of Dar es Salaam.
CNU Announces Stock Market Game winners
Area high school students learned about the stock market through a 10-week simulation and were regional winners in the Christopher Newport University Center for Economic Education's fall 2006 Stock Market Game. These CNU winners ranked the highest of 43 area teams. The top teams will now be ranked among all teams in the state of Virginia.
Student awarded Teach for America fellowship
Ashleigh Stacy, a senior majoring in political science, has been offered a Teach for America fellowship in Houston, Texas. Stacy hopes to work with young pre-K through 4th grade students. Teach for America is part of the AmeriCorps programs.

Golf Classic and Auction
The Alumni Society and CNU’s Educational Foundation will host the Inaugural CNU Scholarship Golf Classic and Auction, to be held March 24, 2007, at the James River Country Club. Proceeds go toward scholarships.

Blasingame ranked no. 1 in blocks, several other men's and women's basketball players ranked nationally
CNU men's basketball player Mark Blasingame currently leads the nation in blocked shots in the NCAA stats released on Jan. 24.
Bessey named USA South Women's Basketball Player Of The Week
CNU women's basketball player Alicia Bessey was named the USA South Player of the Week, the conference announced on Jan. 22.
Former CNU football player named head coach
Matt Lemn was a member of the first two CNU football squads in 2001 and 2002. This month, he was named the head football coach at the new Warhill High School in Williamsburg.
McClintock elected to MAISA Executive Committee
CNU sailor Kate McClintock was elected to serve as one of the two southern representatives to the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Executive Committee.
Golf team picked to finish second in USA South Preseason Poll
CNU's golf team was chosen to finish second in the 2007 USA South Preseason poll released on Jan. 31.
