Paul and Rosemary Trible honored

Tribute
Tributes were given by various members of the community.
CNU’s Board of Visitors hosted a special event on Dec. 8 to honor Paul and Rosemary Trible for 30 years of public service to Virginia, 10 years of leadership at CNU and to celebrate Paul Trible's 60th birthday. The Board of Visitors announced at the event that when CNU’s expanded library opens, it will be renamed the Paul and Rosemary Trible Library. Also a $500,000 endowed merit scholarship will be established in their honor.

Emergency website cnualert.info launched
CNU’s new website cnualert.info provides information on emergency alerts, unscheduled office closings, emergency prevention and preparedness information and general safety information. In January, users can register their cell phones to receive text message alerts. To find the most current status of classes and announcements about the University’s status, make cnualert.info your first stop.

On-campus accommodations available for guests of spring graduates
Hotel/motel accommodations might be in short supply because of the Jamestown 2007 activities in the Hampton Roads area near the time of the Spring 2007 commencement on May 13. So, CNU is pleased to offer on-campus accommodations for the family and friends of spring 2007 graduates in the York River Residence Hall. New Institute for Science Education opens
CNU’s new institute is a community of faculty scholars and educators dedicated to fostering excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

CNU Alumni Society News
Golf Classic and Auction
The Alumni Society and CNU’s Educational Foundation will host the Inaugural CNU Scholarship Golf Classic and Auction, to be held March 24, 2007, at the James River Country Club. Proceeds go toward scholarships.

Regional chapters
Do you live outside the Hampton Roads area and still want to be involved at CNU? Looking to connect with old friends, make new ones, increase your community involvement or expand your networking opportunities? The Alumni Society is seeking volunteers to begin putting together regional chapters across Virginia. If you are interested in serving as a leader for your area, please contact Ashley Boyd, director of Alumni Development, at ashley.boyd@cnu.edu.

Dr. Lisa Spiller, professor of marketing in the Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business, teamed with McDonald Garden Center to earn first place at the Direct Marketing Educator’s Foundation Case Writers’ Workshop in October in San Francisco.

Dr. Terry Lee, associate professor of English at CNU, is the author of “A New Path at Midlife: Transformative Relationship & Story for Men,” published in November 2006 by Men’s Studies Press.

Gabriele LingenfelterProfessor appointed to national board
Gabriele Lingenfelter, coordinator and instructor of the auditing course in the Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business, has been appointed to the Board of Examiners for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Student Government Association helps community groups
SGA raised $100 and more than $300 dollars in pet supplies at PETCO and $102 on campus for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The group also raised more than $452 for Boys and Girls Clubs.

CNU’s football team is the 2006 recipient of the USA South's Sportsmanship Award.

Football players honored
CNU footballFive CNU football student-athletes were named to the d3football.com's All-South Region squad. Two players were named to d3football.com's All-American squad. And seven players were named to the Virginia Sports Information Director's All-State team.

Rob RodriguezFootball player shines in Aztec Bowl
CNU senior Rob Rodriguez helped the United States team defeat Mexico in the annual Aztec Bowl on Dec. 16.

Forward Candace Bryant was named to the 2006 Hoop N Surf Classic's All-Tournament Team.

The Art of the Theater Opening Reception

Tyler CowenAs part of CNU’s expanded study of capitalism, Tyler Cowen, a professor of economics at George Mason University's Center for the Study of Public Choice, will lecture from his forthcoming book, "Discover Your Inner Economist: Use Incentives to Fall in Love, Survive Your Next Meeting, and Motivate Your Dentist." CLay Jenkinson as Thomas JeffersonPart of CNU’s year-long commemoration of Jamestown 2007, Humanities scholar and author Clay Jenkinson will present a Chautauqua-style evening in the persona of the United States’ third president, Thomas Jefferson. Jenkinson will explore the great Virginian’s views about the establishment of the Jamestown colony and its importance to the development of self-government in America, as well as some of his own views. Tickets $20-$30, through the Ferguson Center for the Arts ticket office.

Jamaica Kincaid: Presentation on "Growing Up in A Small Place"

Jamaica KincaidScreening of a documentary film by Jamaica Kincaid, "Life & Debt" based on her book, “A Small Place.” The author, who grew up on the island of Antigua, will speak of growing up female in a colonial society and how these two conditions, one natural, the other its opposite, formed her. Part of the 2006-2007 Dean William Parks Colloquium, the event is free and open to the public.
