Tired of winter?  Need a week at
the beach?
The Alumni Society is once again sponsoring its Vacation Scholarship Silent Auction sponsored by William E. Wood and Associates, Realtors on April 2.  Vacation Packages and Artwork are on the auction block.  The auction is combined with a performance of The Music Man by TheaterCNU and the Music Department to round out the evening.  Get a copy of your invitation now. 

Thinking about graduate school?
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is currently accepting applications for its graduate scholarships.  The CNU committee will forward two nominations to the Foundation.  To apply, contact Dr. Andrew Velkey at (757) 594-7927.  The deadline is March 25, 2005.

With deepest sympathy
Jonathan “Jonny” Besecker, a junior, died while on an academic trip to Belgium that included 20 students and three faculty members last week.  The entire University community is diminished by Jonny’s death. 

Alumni Society Members cast your VOTE
The annual election for the Alumni Society Board of Directors is underway.  Current dues-paying Alumni Society members are asked to cast their votes by March 25.  Learn more about the candidates.

Thinking about moving?
The CNU Alumni Society has partnered with William E. Wood and Associates, Realtors, to offer a new benefit.  If you are buying or selling a home, take advantage of the Alumni Home Advantage program. All members of the CNU Alumni Society are eligible to receive a cash back bonus based on the sale or purchase of their home.

Looking for a new job?
The Office of Career & Counseling Services cordially invites alumni to participate in the Spring 2005 Career & Graduate School Day on Wednesday, March 30, 2005.  The event is held in The Freeman Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  If you have any questions, contact the Office of Career & Counseling Services at (757) 594-7047.

Live from New York … it’s the New Alumni and Class of 2005 Party
The Alumni Society invites the Classes of 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 to celebrate at the New Alumni and Senior Class Party on April 8 at 7 pm.  Enjoy dancing, a comedy show, food, drinks and other entertainment.  The event is sponsored by the Virginia Educators Credit Union.

Seventy Six Trombones Led the Big Parade
TheaterCNU presents The Music Man on March 25, 26, 27 and April 1, 2 and 3.  Tickets can be reserved through the Ferguson Center Ticket Office.

Is insurance really necessary?
The Alumni Society and Liberty Mutual have teamed up to offer a seminar on the benefits of home, auto and renter’s insurance on March 15 at 7 p.m. in Potomac North.  The seminar is open CNU community.  In addition, Michael Koontz, benefits manager for Ferguson Enterprises will discuss health insurance information.  For more information

CNU ATHLETICS Sports Shorts

Captain ChrisThe softball team christened its new facility Tuesday afternoon by splitting a double-header with VA Wesleyan, losing the opener 6-4 and bouncing back to take the night-cap, 5-4 in five innings.

CNU baseball swept a double header from Alma (MI), 6-1 and 15-0, at the Gene Cusic Classic on March 1.

For the second time in as many years, the CNU men's basketball team was defeated in the quarterfinals of the USA South Conference Tournament to the same team that defeated the Captains last season, NC Wesleyan, 82-69, on February 26.

The USA South selected CNU women’s basketball players, Candace Bryant and Samantha Davis, to receive Second Team All-Conference honors.

Captain's Crew Quarterback Scramble
The fourth annual Captains Crew QB Scramble is scheduled for Thursday, March 31, at Kingsmill’s Woods course.  Shotgun start is at 11 a.m.  For more information, contact David Legg at (757) 594-7891.
