Rappahannock Community College, CNU sign agreement

CNU made Rappahannock Community College its first partner in a guaranteed-admission agreement on Feb. 13. The agreement guarantees that 15 spots in CNU’s junior class will be reserved each year for RCC graduates who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for two-year colleges.
Men's basketball reaches NCAA tournament, captures USA South honors

| With a thrilling 89-88 overtime win over Averett, the CNU men’s basketball team won the USA South Tournament and reached the NCAA tournament. Freshman point guard Davon Barton was named the 2006 USA South Rookie of the Year, Head Coach C.J. Woollum was named the conference's Coach of the Year and a total of five players were named to the All-Conference squad. The Captains lost in the first round to Lincoln University (Pa.). CNU finished the season with a 20-8 record. |
Students provide free help with taxes
Taxpayers can have their
tax returns prepared and e-filed for free by CNU student volunteers who have been trained through an IRS program. The public service is available 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 13, except for March 7 and 9, when it will be closed for spring break. Services are offered in Room 325 on the third floor of the SunTrust Building on the CNU campus. No appointment is necessary.
VECTEC helping small communities, businesses
The Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center at CNU is joining with the Virginia Main Street, which is a program of Virginia’s Department of Housing and Community Development to help localities revitalize the economic vitality of their downtown commercial districts. VECTEC will help newly designated communities in the program enhance the e-commerce capabilities of small rural businesses.

CNU Small Business Institute students win case of the year
Students in the Small Business Institute program won Best Undergraduate Case of the Year given at the joint conference of United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Small Business Institute in Tucson, Ariz. This is the second straight year that CNU won the prestigious first place award.
CNU residential leaders bring home awards

CNU won 13 awards presented at the annual Virginia Association of College and University Residence Halls conference in February at Radford University. Fourteen residential leaders represented the University at the conference. |
Students selected for assistantships in Belgium
Three CNU students have been selected to study as research assistants in Brussels, Belgium, during summer 2006. Chosen for the International Research Assistantship are Lauren Strack, Jennifer Vencill and Justin Pritchett. The six-week summer program allows CNU students to work as research assistants at the Brussels School of International Studies.
First student in master of accounting program
Ashley Kristiansen has been accepted into the Master of Accounting Program at the College of William and Mary. Kristiansen is the first student from CNU to be accepted into the program, and she also received a scholarship based on her grades. Faculty members expect her to be the first of many to be accepted into the program.

Two players named to 2006 USA South all-conference team
Two CNU women's basketball players were named to the 2006 USA South All-Conference squad.
Women's basketball breaks eight-game winning streak
CNU women's basketball team lost to Greensboro, breaking its eight-game winning streak and ending any chance for the No. 1 seat in the USA South Conference Tournament.
Mason-Dixon indoor track conference championship results
CNU students Karen Simons and Matt Weissenborn were named the Conference's Most Outstanding Athletes of the Year. Head Coach Louis Johnson was named Mason-Dixon Men and Women's Coach of the Year.

The keynote speaker for the conference is Orson Scott Card, an international best-selling author of science fiction novels “Ender's Game” and “Ender's Shadow.” The conference is open to the public, and registration is required. To promote the conference, writers and members of the public are invited to a public reading at 7 p.m. on March 17 in the Freight Shed located in Yorktown’s Riverwalk Landing, 331 Waters St., Yorktown. |
