The Mariners' Museum's nationally renowned library will be housed in the Trible Library
September 19, 2007 - "CNU and The Mariners' Museum will soon possess a library that is civic in its proportions, elegant in its architecture, 21st Century in its technology and holds in combination a collection of more than 300,000 volumes, including a world-class collection of rare books, manuscripts, maps and photographs that chronicles six centuries of history," said CNU President Paul S. Trible.

Center for American Studies and Civic Leadership founded at CNU
The Center will serve the Commonwealth and the local community by providing a forum for the true intellectual exchange of ideas relating to America's foundation, evolution, and core values. The University has named Elizabeth Kaufer Busch, Assistant Professor of American Studies, as the Center's Director. Dr. Kaufer explains in the Center Mission, "The conception for the Center is premised on the belief that the perpetuation of democratic institutions requires a proper understanding of the ways in which America's intellectual foundations have shaped the nation's practices, values, and ideals."

CNU adopts new SAT-optional policy for admissions
CNU adopted a new policy for admissions that makes the reporting of standardized test scores optional for some high-achieving students. “Our research on CNU students from 2002 to 2007 has shown that high school GPAs are a much better indicator of how well students will do academically at CNU than SAT scores,” said President Paul Trible." These findings are consistent with research findings at other institutions.”

The 7th Annual Alumni 5K Run/Walk
Saturday Sept. 15, the Alumni Society/Oyster Pointer hosted our annual 5K run/walk during Family Weekend. There was a great turn out of 227 participants in the race including students, parents, faculty, and community members. This Peninsula Track Club race took place on a fast, flat track in the beautiful Riverside Community. Also, the event raised money for noteworthy scholarships such as the Alumni Society 'Jonny' Besecker Memorial Endowed Merit Scholarship. The top male and female finishers were Nate Wallace and Louise Wood with times of 16:54 and 20:45 respectively. Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's Alumni 5K event a big success!
